Pilot Car or Escort Vehicle Insurance

Pilot Car Insurance, Escort Vehicle Insurance, Pilot Car Professional Liability, Escort Vehicle Professional Liability, Trucking Escort Liability, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia

A Pilot Car Company plays a special and important role in the Trucking Industry. The Pilot Cars guides their client vehicle (vehicles hauling an oversized load) over a route that will avoid bridge and roadway collapses, or collisions with trees, wires, bridges, and tunnels, etc.

A driver must undergo specialized training to operate a Pilot Car, plus the driver maybe called on to perform specialized services such as route surveys, and pole work. Pilot Car Companies charge fees for their services, and assume the liability for their actions. To provide coverage for any errors and omissions a Professional Liability Policy must be purchased.

For example: ABC Pilot Car is contracted to provide services for XYZ Trucking, who is hauling an oversized load. ABC Pilot Car leads XYZ Trucking’s vehicle along a route where it strikes the bottom of an overpass, damaging the vehicle, cargo, and bridge. During the routine investigation of the claim it is determined that the ABC Pilot Car Company failed to note the proper height of the bridge, thus causing the accident.

ABC Pilot Car Company’s General Liability Policy will not cover this claim because the Commercial General Liability Policy Endorsement CGL 22 43, which excludes professional services performed by or behalf of the named insured. ABC Pilot Car Company’s Commercial Auto Policy would not respond, because none of its vehicles were directly involved in the accident. Luckily, ABC Pilot Car Company purchased a large Pilot Car Professional Liability Policy, which covered the claim.
